How do I join the Bainbridge Chorale?
A vocal assessment is required for those singers wishing to join the Chorale.Vocal assessments (auditions) are held at scheduled times prior to the commencement of rehearsals for a given concert.
Auditions for the Spring 2012 session
are now closed
What is expected in the audition?
The director will listen to your voice to determine your vocal range, and will have you perform some simple exercises to assess your pitch matching and music reading ability. Be assured, you don’t have to be a trained singer or a natural superstar. Most members aren’t.
Auditions are scheduled at 10-minute intervals. Please e-mail info@bainbridgechorale.org to schedule an audition time slot between 5:30 and 6:45.
How much time does membership involve?
This year we will present two concerts. Our holiday concerts was performed on December 10 and 11, 2011. In January, we begin rehearsals for a second concert performed on April 14 and 15. In place of a third concert this year, we are focussing on our major fundraiser, a dinner /auction on April 28.
We will also host a series of three Summer Sings on July 24 and 31 and August 7 which are open to the community as well as Chorale members. These are reading sessions - no preparation necessary, just come and sing the material we provide.
Regular rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:15 to 9:30. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as necessary for the entire Chorale or for a smaller group.
What else is expected of a member?
The Chorale depends on its members for the majority of ticket sales. Several weeks before concert dates, members are given tickets to sell and instructions for selling the tickets and turning in the money and unsold tickets.
The Chorale also depends on its members for a variety
of other necessary functions. Some examples are setting up and breaking
down risers at concert venues, providing modest refreshments at rehearsals
and concerts, and distributing posters to businesses to advertise concerts.
A $75 fee for each session (i.e., Fall, Spring) is due from each member at the time of registration. We also encourage those who are able to register at the $100 Silver Member Patron level or the $125 Gold Member Patron level. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Members also purchase performance attire ($40 for women's tops, $12 for men's ties) and music folders (cost varies).
Where can I get answers if I have further questions?
The Bainbridge Chorale maintains an office that is staffed part-time, but with a full-time phone line on which you can request additional information or ask that someone contact you. The phone number is 206-780-CHOR (206-780-2467), or you can email info@bainbridgechorale.org.
