Young Singers Program - Choir 1, Grades 2-4

line

This Choir will enjoy working on the following:

  • Pitch matching accuracy (singing in tune consistently)
  • Singing rounds and introducing singing in parts (unison and 2 part music)
  • Music theory – how to read a piece of music: learning note values and dynamic symbols
  • A varied song repertoire from classical to pop, and foreign languages
  • Basic vocal technique and singer’s health: how to breathe for singing, tone and vocal shape, body stance, recognizing head and chest voice
  • The language of choral performance and following a choral conductor’s arm movement so that choir and conductor become one
  • Performance readiness skills, e.g. how to prepare for performances
  • Last, but never least! Having fun with singing and movement games that build and reinforce rhythm and music currently learned. Interaction with other singers building camaraderie and self-esteem to aid performance as an ensemble.

Please note – This age singer is too young physiologically to consider private voice lessons. Learning in a group is the safest way to support the young singer in areas of vocal development.

Rehearsals – Choir will rehearse for two ten- to twelve-week sessions a year.  Attendance at weekly rehearsals is expected as it is difficult to meld a choir sound and rehearse as an ensemble if member voices are absent. Please take the decision to participate seriously.

Choir attire – This will be an easy combination of dark pants/skirts and a colored top worn by all choir members. Color and further details will be discussed at rehearsal.
