Young Singers Program - Choir 2, Grades 5-6
What to expect at rehearsals:
- A variety of challenging music sung in English and foreign languages, with age-appropriate song themes and topics
- Songs in 2 and 3 parts with descants and harmony
- Music theory that will appear in the music being performed and build upon concepts learned in Choir 1 or other music lessons
- Vocal technique building and strengthening the musician’s voice, breath control and discussions on good vocal health
- Individual coaching where necessary for solo performance
- Building performance confidence, both in rehearsal and in performance
- Fun and love for singing
- Singers in this choir will be encouraged to share their ideas on how to bring music into our local community
- Additional instrumentation will be welcomed and added to rehearsals and performances to accompany and complement music
- Coaching help will be given on a personal basis when required. Singers this age often have stage parts and benefit working with an accompanist/voice instructor to enhance their performance. If private coaching is requested this is on a private schedule and not part of choir time.
Choir Attire – To be discussed with the choir during the first weeks of rehearsal
What is expected of a singer in this choir?
- Regular attendance so that a good sound can be blended together, which requires every voice to be present
- Respect of self and others so that a fun, cooperative environment can be enjoyed by everyone
- Be an ambassador for the choir when asked to be, for both the local and area communities
