Rejoice and Sing!

Get in the mood for the  holidays with the Chorale’s presentation of Rejoice and Sing! We open the concert with J. Edmund Hughes quietly meditative combination of two traditional texts accompanied by handbells: the Latin Hodie Christus natus est, hodie Salvator apparuit (Christ is born today, today the Savior has come), with O come, O Come, Emmanuel.Traditionalists will enjoy two favorite selections from Handel’s Messiah, Glory to God and Hallelujah. John Rutter’s lively Rejoice and Sing incorporates the tradition carol text of I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In, building to a joyful crescendo in the words “For Christ is born in Bethlehem on Christmas day in the morning”. Also included are works by contemporary composers, such as Ola Gjeilo’s mysterious Tundra, featuring evocative drawn-out chord clusters that embody the essence of the winter landscape. David von Kampen’s A Cradle Hymn is an exquisitely tender meditation on the Nativity, as is Jake Narverud’s heartfelt Lunar Lullaby.

Messiah Sing-Along

Yes, it’s coming! The Tenth Annual Messiah Sing-along!

We proudly take our place again this year in the great tradition of community participation in recreating Handel’s beloved masterpiece, attracting Messiah enthusiasts from both on- and off-Island, bringing us together to share the glory of this masterwork in a relaxed setting. You’ll be led through the most popular choruses by Bainbridge Chorale Artistic Director Michael Austin Miller, currently in his ninth season with the Chorale, and eighth year of conducting this event, and accompanied as always by the Messiah Festival Orchestra, a talented ensemble that volunteers their time for this event.

We are fortunate to have with us again this year soloists  Susy Wingate, Soprano and Matthew Melendez, Tenor, as well as newcomers Alto Julia Benzinger, and Bass Jonathan Silvia.

Come to sing or just to listen. A limited number of scores will be available at the door to borrow. Bring your own score if you have one.

Admission is by suggested donation at the door, cash or check only. Families are welcome; students and children accompanied by an adult are free.

The Olympic Girls’ Choir: sharing a passion for singing

Olympic Girls' Choir

In September 2018 the Olympic Girls’ Choir welcomed newly-appointed Artistic Director Angie Godfrey and Girls’ Choir Accompanist Laetitia Lehman-Pearsall. Serving girls ages 7 through high school residing on Bainbridge Island and in the Kitsap area, the girls’ choir provides a transformative experience through high-quality, diverse choral music education which emphasizes teamwork, encourages self-discipline, and fosters a deep commitment to artistic excellence. Along with music theory, sight reading, vocal technique and ensemble singing, the girls learn to be musicians in the context of a choir community. Repertoire is varied, ranging from traditional choral literature to current favorites, with each session culminating in a concert. As well, singers  perform in the adult Chorale Family Holiday Concert, and in various other venues on the Island.

The choir is comprised of three ensembles, Encora (non-auditioned, Meet-the-Director appointment required), for girls in Grades 2 and 3,  Cantabile (auditioned) for girls in Grades 4 – 6, and the Chamber Choir (auditioned) for ages 12 and up.

The final day for auditions and Meet-the-Director appointments for the Fall 2018 session is Tuesday, September 18.
Please email for more information about scheduling an audition.
