How much time does membership involve?
The 2018-2019 season will include three performances of a holiday concert December 14,15 & 16, 2017, and two performances of a spring concert on April 27 and 28, 2019. As part of our holiday series, we will also present a family holiday concert suitable for all ages on Saturday afternoon, December 15.
As well, the Chorale has been invited to participate in the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium Big Sing of the Brahms German Requiem in Seattle on Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018.
The Chorale-hosted annual Messiah Sing-along will be presented on Friday evening, December 28, 2018. This popular event is open to the community and attracts singers from all over the area. Chorale members are encouraged to participate if they are able.
Our major annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday evening, March 16, 2019 . Members are asked to participate in the fundraiser in some way, either by attending, inviting friends, helping with procurement or event management, or by donating cash or items for auction.
We will also host a series of three choral reading sessions in July and August which are open to the community as well as Chorale members. These are reading sessions – no preparation necessary, just come and sing the material we provide. Attendance is optional, but it’s a lot of fun and we encourage members to attend and welcome non-Chorale members.
Regular rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:15 to 9:30 at the Woodward Middle School stage/commons area. Attendance at Monday evening rehearsals and dress rehearsals is mandatory, unless excused for illness or family- or work-related emergencies.
What else is expected of a member?
The Chorale depends on its members for the majority of ticket sales. Several weeks before concert dates, members are given tickets to sell and instructions for selling the tickets and turning in the money and unsold tickets.
The Chorale also depends on its members for a variety of other necessary functions. Some examples are setting up and breaking down risers at concert venues, providing modest refreshments at rehearsals, distributing posters to businesses to advertise concerts, and soliciting advertising for the concert programs.
An $85 fee for each session (i.e., Fall, Spring, sometimes a Summer session) is due from each member at the time of registration. For couples (or two members of the same household) the fee is $150. We also encourage those who are able to register at the Silver ($110) or Gold ($135) Member Patron level . Tuition assistance is available for those with financial need. Members also purchase performance attire (about $45 for women’s tops, men wear purchased or rented tuxedos) and music folders (about $25).
