The Olympic Girls’ Choir focuses on providing a comprehensive and progressive choral education within a girls’ choir community, with an emphasis on vocal production, ensemble performance, and music reading/theory. Repertoire includes a wide variety of classical, contemporary and popular music.

There are two class sessions each year, in the fall and the spring, each culminating in a recital. In order to ensure continuity of skills building, girls  are encouraged to commit to a full season’s participation if possible.

The choir is comprised of two tiered ensembles:

  • Encora, a non-auditioned ensemble for Grades 2 – 4. Encora  performs in the adult Chorale Family Holiday Concert in December.
  • Cantabile, an auditioned performing choir for Grades 5 – 8. Girls who wish to join Cantabile are strongly encouraged to commit to a full season’s participation. Cantabile  performs in the adult Chorale holiday concerts in December and April.

Classes  are held weekly on Tuesday afternoons at Rolling Bay Hall (in the back part of the Island Music Guild building).

Parent Meeting:
When: will be held during the second or third class of each session
Where: Rolling Bay Performing Hall (downstairs in the classroom building)

Please come to hear about all things Girls’ Choir in a brief meeting between Encora and Cantabile classes.

Auditions:

Auditions for Cantabile are held by appointment before the fall and spring class sessions. Girls interested in joining Encora will not need to audition, but are asked to make an appointment to meet with Director Milleson before registering. The auditions are informal and low pressure, and there is no need to prepare a piece in advance. Director Laura Milleson will assess basic musical skills such as pitch matching, rhythm and vocal range, but is equally interested in assessing the student’s willingness to commit to working conscientiously on the music and fitting into a choir community.
